Used to absorb phenols and tannic acids from aqueous extracts for the purification of plant enzymes. Used as a chromatographic adsorbent for the separation of aromatic acids, aldehydes, and phenols.

PVP is soluble in water, alcohols, amines, and halogenated hydrocarbons, but insoluble in acetone, ether, etc.
