160 mm Effective Coating Width | 190 mm Overall Length | Four Fixed Coating Gaps
The CANRD Extended-Length Four-Sided Fixed Film Applicator is a manual drawdown tool designed for preparing laboratory wet films on flat, securely supported substrates. With a 160 mm effective coating width and a 190 mm overall length, it provides twice the effective coating width of the standard version, making it suitable for wider experimental coatings and comparative formulation studies.
Each applicator features four individually marked fixed coating gaps. Researchers can select different nominal clearances simply by rotating the tool to the corresponding working side. Its stainless-steel construction supports repeated laboratory use and convenient cleaning.

How to Use

Prepare a clean, level substrate and secure it firmly to prevent movement or wrinkling.

Select the required fixed coating gap according to the engraved marking.

Dispense a suitable amount of coating slurry ahead of the applicator.

Draw the applicator smoothly across the substrate, maintaining a consistent speed and avoiding tilting.

Dry the coated sample under suitable conditions and evaluate the resulting film thickness and quality.

Clean the applicator promptly with a compatible solvent after use.
Important Notes
Each applicator provides four separate fixed coating gaps, not a continuously adjustable thickness range.
The specified gap dimensions represent nominal mechanical clearances. Actual wet-film and dry-film thicknesses depend on slurry rheology, solids content, substrate properties, coating conditions, and drying parameters.
