Details
80 mm Coating Width | Four Fixed Coating Gaps | Stainless Steel
The CANRD Four-Sided Fixed Film Applicator is a manual coating tool designed for preparing wet films of controlled nominal thickness on flat substrates. It is widely applicable to laboratory-scale battery electrode slurry coating, material evaluation, and functional film preparation.
Each applicator features four fixed coating gaps, allowing researchers to select different gap settings by rotating the tool. Made of stainless steel, it offers durable construction and smooth working surfaces for routine laboratory use.
With an effective coating width of 80 mm and an overall length of 100 mm, this compact tool is suitable for small-scale coating trials and experimental sample preparation.
Key Features
Four Fixed Coating Gaps:
Each applicator provides four different fixed gap sizes, allowing researchers to compare coating conditions without switching between multiple tools.
Clearly Engraved Gap Marking
Each fixed coating gap is marked on the end face for quick identification and selection.
Stainless-Steel Construction
Manufactured from stainless steel for durability, wear resistance, and convenient cleaning after coating.
80 mm Effective Coating Width
Suitable for small-scale laboratory coating, electrode preparation, and comparative evaluation of experimental slurry formulations.

Note: Each applicator features four separate fixed coating gaps, one on each side. The specified gap values refer to nominal applicator clearances, not the actual wet-film or dry-film thickness. Actual coating thickness depends on slurry properties, substrate conditions, coating speed, and drying parameters.
Complies with ASTM D823
Customization Available: Different coating widths and fixed coating gap sizes can be customized upon request.

Applications
Battery Electrode Preparation
Suitable for laboratory-scale coating of cathode and anode slurries onto properly secured aluminum or copper foil substrates.
Slurry and Binder Evaluation
Enables researchers to compare the coating behavior of different slurry formulations, binder systems, and material dispersions.
Functional Film Preparation
Applicable to laboratory preparation of compatible coating formulations, inks, and functional films on appropriately supported flat substrates.

How to Use
-
Prepare the Substrate: Place the substrate on a clean, level surface and secure it firmly to prevent movement during coating.
-
Select the Coating Gap: Rotate the applicator to select the required fixed gap according to its engraved marking.
-
Apply the Slurry: Dispense an appropriate amount of well-mixed coating slurry ahead of the applicator.
-
Draw the Film: Move the applicator smoothly across the substrate at a consistent speed, avoiding tilting or interruptions.
-
Dry and Evaluate: Dry the coated sample under suitable conditions and evaluate the resulting coating.
-
Clean After Use: Remove residual slurry promptly using a compatible cleaning solvent, then dry the applicator thoroughly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the coating gap equal the final film thickness?
A: No. The specified gap represents the nominal mechanical clearance. Actual wet-film and dry-film thicknesses depend on slurry rheology, solids content, coating conditions, and drying behavior.
Q: Are the coating gaps adjustable?
A: No. Each applicator provides four fixed coating gaps. Different gap combinations are available to accommodate different coating requirements.
Q: Can it be used for battery electrode slurry coating?
A: Yes. The applicator can be used for laboratory-scale cathode and anode slurry coating on flat, securely fixed substrates.
Packaging
Protective packaging helps reduce the risk of damage to the applicator's working surfaces during transportation. The packaging shown is for reference; the final packaging configuration should be confirmed when ordering.
