Details
Usage and maintenance of nickel crucible:
1. Nickel has a melting point of 1455 degrees, and it has strong alkali resistance and corrosion resistance. Therefore, it is often used for melting iron alloys, slag, clay, refractory materials, etc.
2. The temperature of the nickel crucible should not exceed 700 degrees when melting samples, as nickel is easily oxidized at high temperatures.
3. Nickel crucibles cannot be used for the burning of precipitates.
4. Nickel crucibles are suitable for melting samples of alkaline solvents such as sodium hydroxide, sodium peroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, and potassium nitrate. They are not suitable for melting samples of acidic solvents such as potassium bisulfate or sodium bisulfate, as well as alkaline sulfide solvents containing sulfur.
5. The melting state of aluminum, zinc, lead, tin, mercury, and other metal salts can make the nickel crucible brittle. Borax should not be melted in a nickel crucible.
6. Nickel crucibles contain trace amounts of chromium, so caution should be exercised when using them.
7. New nickel crucibles should be burned to a blue-purple color in a muffle furnace to remove surface oil stains, then boiled in a 1:20 HCI solution for a while, and finally rinsed with water.
